After a slightly draining weekend of a brilliant wedding (pictures on the way) and dashing around the country, I once again got up at an insane hour (pre-4am) but this time in search in something other than a landscape lit by the early morning light. Instead I was heading into the centre of Bristol to the pre-event/curtain raiser event for the International Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2010. Just a small selection of hot air balloons (only 10) had arrived to fly from the relatively small area of College Green, against the back-drop of Bristol Cathedral, but it was great to be able to get up close and see them all preparing their gear and inflate the immense canopies ready for lift-off. Around 100 to a possible 150(!) balloons are expected to rise into the air in the mass launches taking place later in the week and guess who’s going to be there…

I was in Bristol the other day to see a friend and drop into the gallery to see if there was anything to catch up on. I couldn’t resist a quick image of the familiar Clifton Suspension Bridge at sunset during a brief wander at the end of the day. The soft pinks and purples in the sky lasted only a few minutes before the sun dipped below the horizon behind me, by sheer chance the lights on the bridge came on just before I make this image as well.

Another great thing about this time of year is all the wildlife you can spot, getting going early on a cool crisp morning can rarely be beaten

I intended to put these up sooner but thanks to some pesky, spotty teenager with nothing better to do than create malicious software viruses for no good reason other than to piss people off – I am posting these up just now from my hidden rebel base (i.e. work computer!). So, in no particular order here’s more from Steph and Jon’s wedding:

Flowers! There were lots of these around the church, bright colours dotted about

Last week I was given the immensely enjoyable task of shooting a wedding for a friend here in Bristol, on possibly the best weekend so far this year! Blue skies and fantastic golden light greeted everyone as we exited the church to congratulate the two on their marriage…and here are a few snippets of the day’s events…

It got misty again so I headed out early, the day after a wedding I shot for a friend too…the sun came up and slowly burnt off all the mist leaving perhaps the warmest day this year so far just in time summer officially turns to autum!

Despite the washed-out event of the
Bristol Balloon Fiesta with cancelled mass launches and a cancelled Night Glow event the Red Arrows did not fail to disappoint and put on a great display above the skies of Bristol over Ashton Court park.

New bike, nice and fast. Quick experiment of shooting on the saddle, needs a bit more practice! Next time…

But in a good way. I’ve completed a project on a subject not far from where I live and I’m trying to finish off two papers, a presentation and various other things, all whilst training to race over the summer. But its been good, just neglected the postings here annoyingly. So, without further ado I have a shot I took almost 2 years ago but its one of my favourites from an evening fishing with my dad…good times.
