After a slightly draining weekend of a brilliant wedding (pictures on the way) and dashing around the country, I once again got up at an insane hour (pre-4am) but this time in search in something other than a landscape lit by the early morning light. Instead I was heading into the centre of Bristol to the pre-event/curtain raiser event for the International Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2010. Just a small selection of hot air balloons (only 10) had arrived to fly from the relatively small area of College Green, against the back-drop of Bristol Cathedral, but it was great to be able to get up close and see them all preparing their gear and inflate the immense canopies ready for lift-off. Around 100 to a possible 150(!) balloons are expected to rise into the air in the mass launches taking place later in the week and guess who’s going to be there…

I was in Bristol the other day to see a friend and drop into the gallery to see if there was anything to catch up on. I couldn’t resist a quick image of the familiar Clifton Suspension Bridge at sunset during a brief wander at the end of the day. The soft pinks and purples in the sky lasted only a few minutes before the sun dipped below the horizon behind me, by sheer chance the lights on the bridge came on just before I make this image as well.

Another great thing about this time of year is all the wildlife you can spot, getting going early on a cool crisp morning can rarely be beaten. Yes, it can be a struggle getting out of a warm bed but the rewards can be immense. It is certainly the best time to go out searching for things…on a still morning sounds travel for miles, so if you’re careful and quiet you can hear all manner of things before they’re upon you. I’ve hidden in hedges and spotted deer racing across fields and had birds of prey wheeling above me as the hunt in the morning light. Even if the wildlife is sleeping in (!) you can almost always find small treasures at your feet…

I intended to put these up sooner but thanks to some pesky, spotty teenager with nothing better to do than create malicious software viruses for no good reason other than to piss people off – I am posting these up just now from my hidden rebel base (i.e. work computer!). So, in no particular order here’s more from Steph and Jon’s wedding:

Flowers! There were lots of these around the church, bright colours dotted about

Find your name tags and hearts at the reception.

And on up the path to the Church!!

After the vows

Swords, they were quite shiny

This one was not shot by me but by my temporary assistant (girlfriend!!) I had there, quite a good shot I reckon too…(a jedi she will be soon no doubt!)

Leaving the church, after all the guests had left the couple quietly left the church in the warm summer evening light…

I wasn’t close enough to hear but judging by the bride’s expression its perhaps best left to imagination…
