It’s just one of those evenings. Quietly strolling along the river bank waiting for fish to rise, cool beer in one hand and camera in the other. The sun gently falling in the sky, reds, yellows, oranges and pinks lingering in the afterglow. The tall grass and rush tips ever so slightly brushed by the light as it disappeared over the horizon in the distance. This is by no means a perfect photo but as a direct response to that which I was surrounded by at the time, a snap-shot of the end of a beautiful late summer’s day. Once the sun had finally dropped out of view the air became cool, for the first time in months I could see my breath as I exhaled. What can beat an evening spent with nothing to occupy the mind save the hopes of stirred water and a chance to outwit those that glide beneath… We wandered back to the car empty handed but content…

Went fishing with my dad the other weekend, felt good to get out in the fresh air and back beside a river. I was missing the rowing but fishing is one of those past times you will find it hard to beat at the end of a warm summer day, throw a cool beer into the mix and you’re all set. Well, I had to forego tha beer and settle for juice though, stomach was still doing somersaults and didn’t feel like chancing it with the alcohol quite so soon! The calm air gently cooling around us, little bugs getting on with things in their frenetic dancing over the river bank, yet with all this going on it doesn’t seem to shatter the tranquil atmosphere in the closing light.

I’ve been going fishing with my dad for years – I can’t remember for how long – its something he just loves to do. Sometimes we catch a handful, sometimes none at all but despite this I’ve always enjoyed it as something we’ve done together. He’s done so much to make the family’s life comfortable and helps us when we need it, and although I never said it I really appreciate it. I guess even more so now that I’m making my own way in life. My advice, if you get the chance to spend time with your dad; take it. That reminds me (father’s day coming soon isn’t it…) Not much more I can add to that really…cheers dad
