Henley Royal Regatta 2025
Part 3: It Doesn’t Rain…
A sea of umbrellas at the boat tents as die hard supporters stand in torrential rain to cheer their crews on whilst they go afloat.
It’s not always sunshine and picnics down by the river. No classic British summertime sporting event would be complete without at least one sudden, and heavy, downpour with little warning. Thankfully Henley did not disappoint in that regard this year and there were a few brief, pummelling and quite refreshing bouts of wetness, quite the contrast from the mid-30 degree heat we were hammered with earlier in the week at the start of racing.
In what seemed only a matter of minutes the squall had passed as though it had never been (apart from my wet shoes...) closely followed by some absolutely fantastic lighting conditions for photography. I just love shooting these familiar scenes in such radically different - and unexpected - conditions, as you can see from the results they tend to yield quite a unique and contrasting view of the event compared to the blue skies and sunshine expectations.
