It’s been some time since my last entry here, not for lack of anything to add – perhaps the reverse! Some keen-eyed visitors may have spotted subtle updates and design tweaks around the website, followers of my Facebook page and twitter account will have caught updates now and then as and when I have been able to post them up theres, the convenience and simplicity involved in reaching a wide audience (thanks to the “share” button) no doubt plays its part as a quick platform through which to share my work. That being said I acknowledge the need to maintain updates on one’s own website! So, without further ado I shall attempt to wrap up the last few months with a handful of cherry-picked images and updates which I hope to expand upon in some follow up posts.

Picking up where my previous post left off; Henley Royal Regatta, a fantastic spectacle as much as a (the?) premier rowing competition. In many respects one does not exist without the other, for a photographer it’s a hectic and relentless week of trying to create interesting photographs of the sport and the event – and hopefully nothing too contrived in the process! For the athlete it’s Mecca.

Around this time I was invited to the south of Spain to photograph the wedding of some good friends, unfortunately the event was called off for entirely unexpected and tragic circumstances beyond anyone’s control, a low key event was arranged instead which meant I was left with a few days spare in a part of the world I knew little about. So, after retrieving my lost baggage (thanks Iberia), I headed to Seville and then travelled out into the surrounding landscape of the nearby Grazalema National Park to explore the many Pueblos Blancos (White Villages) dotted around the mountains. It was mid-summer and hot. Very hot. Hot enough to melt things if you left them on the front passenger seat even…

I miss the Olympics. There I said it. I know I’m not alone in this confession. Certainly the London 2012 Olympic Games brought national excitement, optimism, camaraderie and – despite being British and the most reserved of people – patriotism. Without the Games firmly lodged in the calendar this summer was starting to feel a little aimless so I took it upon myself to explore London a little more…

The end of September bought with it a commission in the south of France, specifically to continue on from a project I was evolved in last year on the yacht Mariquita. A different approach in this year’s project which requires footage from each regatta the boat visits and races around the Mediterranean, the final week of racing of which was in St Tropez at the start of October. I know, it’s a tough life sometimes but someone has to do it…

Now, as I write in early December, many trees still refuse to shed their autumnal colours, an activity usually over and done with by the end of November. Weather forecasts of ‘Coldest winter on the way’ in predictably Doomsday-esque prophesies have yet to materialise – though there have been severe floods recently which may be the shape of things to come. That said it’s been great taking advantage of the late (and long) running displays of colour and misty weather. There are lots of things quietly ticking over at the moment and others gathering traction that hopefully will come to fruition in the near future…with a bit of luck I’ll be reporting back with those successes soon!
